As part of the Associated Gospel Churches of Canada (AGC), the Church of the Open Bible is committed to teaching and upholding the articles of faith and practice outlined by the AGC.
Below is a brief summary of our beliefs. A more detailed doctrinal statement can be found by clicking here.
THE BIBLE: We believe it all. Totally. Wholly.
THE TRIUNE GOD: We believe in one God who wonderfully and mysteriously exists eternally in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
JESUS CHRIST: We believe he is God that became man, lived sinlessly, suffered terribly, and died humbly. This sacrificial death was necessary to bridge the gap between God and humanity, the gap created and sustained by sin. Gloriously, Jesus rose from the dead, defeating death, proving he is the Son of God, and giving eternal life to all who trust in him alone as their God and saviour!
HOLY SPIRIT: We believe the Holy Spirit is presently indwelling believers, enabling and empowering their lives and ministries.
HUMANITY: We believe humanity was created in the image of God and for relationship with God. However, sin has distorted that image and created a chasm between us and our Creator so that the relationship is hindered. Left to ourselves, there is no way for us to restore what has been marred. We stand condemned under the righteous judgment of God. But for those in Christ there is now no condemnation. He died, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring us to God and restore the image of God in us.
RESURRECTION: We believe in the bodily resurrection of everyone who has lived. What happens after that resurrection depends on ones relationship with Jesus Christ.
